Bike Hire / Car Sharing

France - Portugal

The demand for cycle hire schemes is growing and their health-related and green credentials are key in many authorities’ local transport plans. Transdev is focussed on deploying complementary technology such as smartcards and mobile phone applications to deliver cost-effective cycling solutions which can complement the existing street scene, integrate with other transport networks, and grow cycle use.

Currently Transdev operate 13 urban bicycle systems in France which include both self service, long and short term hire and secure parking facilities. Secure bike parking can be used to effectively extend the catchment of key BRT or tram stops by allowing customers to cycle and ride. Transdev manages over 12,000 bicycles with 3,500 of these being self service.

User choice is rapidly expanding, with 20 new Smart EV electric vehicles planned for introduction in 2012.

In Nice, ‘Auto bleue’ is an entirely electric car-sharing solution that launched in April 2011. An initial fleet of 50 cars is planned to expand to 200+ before 2014. Two different model of electric vehicle are available depending upon the capacity required, the Peugeot iOn and the Citroen Berlingo, bookings can be made and managed online.
