Bournemouth

Bournemouth Transport Ltd (BTL) is over 100 years old and commenced trading in 1902 as Bournemouth Corporation Tramways. Bournemouth Transport Ltd was acquired by Transdev from Bournemouth Borough Council in 2005 and trades under the name Yellow Buses.

Bournemouth's Local Transport Operator

Bournemouth Transport Ltd operates bus services trading under the name of Transdev Yellow Buses - the Yellow Buses name has long been associated with the company and enjoys strong local brand recognition. The company also runs coach services under contract to National Express. With a fleet of 14 coaches and more than 100 buses, the company carries more than 13 million passengers per year. Offering an extensive network of routes, Transdev Yellow Buses is the premier operator in Bournemouth, and has a strong presence in the Poole and Christchurch area - a fast-growing urban area with a population of over 350,000.

Transforming the Business

Since acquisition, Transdev has transformed the business by developing a new route network, investing heavily in the bus fleet and in new technology, such as real-time information systems. Passenger numbers have grown by more than 40 per cent since 2005 and the company has moved from loss-making to profit. Transdev Yellow Buses has gained a reputation for producing cutting edge network information and has won local and national awards for its quality of service, marketing campaigns and emphasis on environmental issues.

Working in Partnership

In line with Transdev's Vision 2012 objectives, partnership has remained a key focus. As well as Bournemouth Borough Council retaining a seat on the Bournemouth Transport Ltd Board, strong relationships have been forged with all of the local Councils and many other key stakeholders.
