Harrogate's electric buses have the answer for a great night out7 April 2019
New evening buses plus a money-saving meal deal at The Knox family pub and restaurant in Bilton.
Enjoying a great night out is set to become easier with the launch of new electric evening buses between Harrogate and Bilton later this month.
The Harrogate Bus Company is to boost its timetable from Sunday, 28 April, with new evening buses on its popular Harrogate Electrics 2B route serving New Park and The Knox.
And to celebrate the new services, The Knox family pub and restaurant in Bilton are offering a 10 per cent discount on food to anyone with a valid ticket for travel the same day on the 2B bus.
The 2B service will now run every hour throughout the evening on Mondays to Saturdays – with three extra journeys at 8.40pm, 9.40pm and 10.40pm from Harrogate Bus Station.
Combined with the current evening buses on service 2A, the changes mean there’ll buses every half hour from Harrogate to Bilton and back to town six nights a week – and with the last bus on the 2A service leaving Harrogate Bus Station at 11.10pm, the new timetable offers easy access to Harrogate’s bars, restaurants, theatre, cinema and more – good news for the town’s growing evening economy.
The Harrogate Bus Company’s Service Delivery Manager Andy Turnbull said: “We’re delighted to introduce these additional evening services on our popular Bilton services, which are becoming more and more popular – especially since the introduction of our pioneering electric buses.
“With the return of lighter evenings and – we hope – warmer weather, it’s the ideal time to leave the car at home. We are delighted to be not just supporting the town centre offer but also great local family pubs like The Knox here in Bilton too.”
The Knox pub and restaurant’s owners Simon and Katie Swannie are welcoming the extra evening buses to and from Bilton. Simon said: “These new bus services will make it even easier to leave the car at home, relax and enjoy a lunchtime or evening meal and drinks with us, without the temptation to drink and drive.
“The smart new electric buses are already a big success across Harrogate, and now they’ll bring more people to our doorstep six nights a week. To celebrate, we’re happy to offer a 10 per cent discount to customers using the buses off their final bill when ordering food – all they need to do is show us a valid bus ticket for the 2B bus route on that day.”
The introduction of the extra evening buses follows The Harrogate Bus Company’s successful “Sunday Freeway” promotion, with free travel each Sunday on Harrogate Electrics buses on routes 2A and 2B from Bilton, service 3 from Jennyfield and service 6 from Pannal Ash.
Hundreds of customers took up the offer to sample Harrogate’s new all-electric buses in March, many for the first time – and thanks to an exciting sponsorship deal with The Spirit of Harrogate, owners of the world-famous Slingsby Gin, the free Sunday buses will now continue for at least the next four months.
From the same date, there’ll also be changes to improve timekeeping on bus services 6 from Harrogate to Pannal Ash, X6 to Beckwith Knowle, and 7 to Wetherby – plus there’ll be a new service 8 linking Harrogate, Hookstone Chase and Knaresborough with Wetherby, replacing the current Little Explorers 22 and 23 buses between Knaresborough and Harrogate.
There’ll also be a new weekday morning and evening bus on route 24 serving Harrogate’s Army Foundation College, while more buses are being added to the ever-popular 36 route between Harrogate and Leeds during the busy morning and afternoon rush hours.
Full information on services provided by The Harrogate Bus Company is available online at: http://www.harrogatebus.co.uk and via the free-to-download “Transdev Go” smartphone app. Timetable guides for the electric buses are also available from the information kiosk at Harrogate bus station.
