They're the pride of the North! Talented Transdev team's triple success at UK Bus Awards21 November 2018
Gold, silver and bronze award wins at bus industry’s premier celebration of talent and innovation.
North of England bus operator Transdev Blazefield is celebrating triple success in the UK bus industry’s biggest celebration of innovation and excellence.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze wins at last night’s (Tuesday 20 November 2018) UK Bus Awards set the seal on a highly successful year for the Harrogate-based bus firm, which has invested millions of pounds to deliver the highest standards of customer service across hundreds of bus routes from Preston and Manchester to the Yorkshire Coast.
Transdev Blazefield subsidiary The Burnley Bus Company took the coveted Gold award in the Putting Passengers First category for its ground-breaking ‘Make My Mainline’ market research programme, which inspired the key features of a £4.5 million fleet of 30 new top-of-the-range buses in the East Lancashire town – the company’s biggest ever investment in Lancashire.
The all-new buses, each proudly built in the North of England, are packed with passenger-friendly features developed from the far-reaching ‘Make My Mainline’ research, which harnessed the power of social media to attract hundreds of customer suggestions to help create the best possible journey experience.
Each bus includes many of the best ideas suggested in the research results, from fast, free and reliable Wi-Fi and at seat USB power points to brighter interior lighting, more legroom and luggage space, and even bigger litter bins – plus the added finishing touch of a local ‘Voice of Mainline’ chosen from online auditions to deliver on-board audio announcements to customers.
Transdev Blazefield CEO Alex Hornby said: “I’m absolutely delighted by these prestigious awards, which recognise the innovation, talent and pride in our teams as they deliver amazing customer service every day, right across the North.
“I’m also immensely proud to see our dedicated people winning recognition at a national level for the great contribution they’ve made to another very successful year. Together our teams are looking forward to delivering more success in 2019 and beyond, as we continue to develop our business with customers at the very heart of all we do.”
It was also a proud night at Transdev subsidiary Coastliner, where bus driver Adam Davies took the Silver award in the hotly-contested Top National Bus Driver category, beating competition from tens of thousands of bus drivers across the nation.
Adam is one of the best-known faces on the Coastliner network of routes between Leeds, York and the Yorkshire Coast, provided by a dedicated team based at Malton in North Yorkshire – and played a key role in promoting the service on national television and radio this year, when it was named as Britain’s Most Scenic Bus Route in a first-ever online poll.
The triple awards success was completed by Andy Turnbull, Service Delivery Manager at Transdev’s The Harrogate Bus Company, who won the Bronze award in the Young Manager of the Year category. Andy only joined the company in September 2016 yet already has a first-class reputation as a dedicated professional with immense potential. Only last month, Andy was also named joint winner of the Rising Star category in the bus industry’s Route One Awards, which recognises the UK bus and coach industry’s brightest prospects.
The Blackburn Bus Company was also shortlisted for the title of Top National Bus Depot, the first time the team has made it to the finals of the UK Bus Awards.
Chairman of the UK Bus Awards, Mark Yexley, said: “For Transdev Blazefield’s companies and team members to be recognised with these three awards is impressive. For Adam Davies to scoop the Silver in the Top National Driver category is something that he, his customers and his colleagues should be hugely proud of.
“We would like to congratulate the whole team on their outstanding achievement, from everyone at the UK Bus Awards.”
The UK Bus Awards are sponsored by many of the leading names in the nation’s bus and coach industry. The Putting Passengers First award is sponsored by Coach and Bus 2019, while the Top National Bus Driver prize is sponsored by Volvo, with the Young Manager of the Year Award supported by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
